How productivity, innovation and wellness principles reshape campus interiors.
Australian universities educate 1.4 million local and international students each year. Surveying learners across nine institutions on Australia’s east coast revealed three design imperatives: spaces that boost productivity, nurture innovation and support wellness through inclusivity and environmental connection. Vol 2 translates these findings into spatial strategies campus teams can action immediately.
Productive campuses
Flexible typologies accommodate focus, active and hybrid learning; 75.5% of students rate the library as their most productive space, signalling demand for quiet, resource-rich zones across campus.
Innovation ecosystem
82% of respondents feel their university actively encourages innovation, favouring immersive labs, moveable furniture and emerging tech that allow ideas to flourish.
Wellness by design
Inclusive, socially connected and environmentally conscious settings matter; 71% believe their campus is environmentally responsible, underscoring the value of outdoor-linked social hubs and biophilic elements.
